There's a lot of lessons to learn here; a few of my initial takeaways:
-Layered home defense matters. By the time the Ben heard the criminal he was already inside the home
-Ben did a good job of not moving when he didn't have to
-He stood in the worst possible place to defend from - right where the criminal would look when he opened the door. Standing off line, preferably behind some concealment (if cover isn't available) is a better place to launch a counter-ambush. He likely would have been about to get at least 2 or 3 shots on target before the criminal could have located him and returned fire if he did this
-You never want to count on pistol ballistics if you could have otherwise used a long gun. Very likely one or two shots center mass from a 12ga with buckshot or an AR15/AK47 would have stopped the criminal from harming him or his girlfriend
-He's lucky his grip didn't cause a malfunction
What else did y'all pick up on?
'"Benjamin Nevers got into a shootout with a man who broke into his home on North Brookside.
"My foot completely shattered," he said. "They have screws and plates, immediate surgery, and then I got hit in the back right here as well."
Benjamin said his girlfriend, who was lying in the bed behind him during the incident, was also shot.
"I know she got shot in the back, and it like traveled up and it like hit her kidney and I think it’s lodged in her chest right now - like they can’t get the bullet out cause it’s too dangerous. So, I know they are watching her and it’s going to be a couple more days," he said." -Fox2

It's certainly not a "gun safe" but it's 100% better than nothing at all & has built in points to anchor it in a wall or bolt it to the floor. Either of those options will deter almost all smash and grab criminals.
Cheapest I've seen it 👌🏽
