"Civil Asset Forfeiture" laws are some of the most egregious repugnant unconstitutional "laws" currently in place across many states in our Republic.
Retired Marine Stephen Lara had $87k in cash stolen from him by armed agents of the state without due process and has since sued (case not settled yet) after the Nevada Highway Patrol. He was never charged with a single crime.
These "laws" MUST be repealed and the assets seized must be returned to the American citizens who legally own them. Officers and departments who have participated in these unconstitutional actions should be held criminally and civilly for their actions.
Most Americans have no idea how common this practice is. It's VERY widespread unfortunately.
