Well, I had no idea it would happen but it seems the video of police breaking into a mans home in Illinois has gone viral and has reached a lot of accounts that don't follow me which is good I suppose but there seems to be some confusion on one of the points I made in that post.
From a quick glance at the comments many were confused by the acronym "GWOT" which means global war on terror. The reason it's relevant is that under the federal 1033 program over $7 billion dollars of actual US military equipment has been given to domestic police agencies of all types. The VAST majority of that has occurred following the "surge" in Iraq as deployed forces were reduced and the military's need for the equipment (armored vehicles, grenade launchers, planes, etc...) in theater decreased and it was viewed as "excess equipment." Now that equipment is being used domestically in confrontations with American citizens.
Obviously this is a complex issue that can't be broken down in a single text post but that should provide context to those who were asking...

Video starts out rough but ends on a positive note...
